Judging criteria for Division 1: Campaigns

It’s time to honor the best of the best in the world of Utah public relations and business communication. Entries for the 2013 Golden Spike Awards are now open, and we want to give you the tools to compile an excellent entry.

The Golden Spike Awards, sponsored by the Utah Chapters of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Utah chapter, and the Utah Society for Healthcare Communication and Marketing (USHCAM), will honor entrants from two divisions: Campaigns and Tactics.

Before you complete and review your entry for Division 1 – Campaigns, take a look at the judging criteria.

Entries will be judged according to five categories:

1. Research
2. Planning
3. Execution
4. Evaluation
5. Supporting Materials

Judges will award points for each entry by answering the questions listed below.

We wish you luck as your prepare your entry, and we look forward to seeing you at the 26th annual Golden Spike Awards on November 14, 2013.

1. Research

How thorough or relevant was the research to overall planning and audience identification?
Did the research reflect a clear need or opportunity?
Was the research undertaken to assist in achieving desired results?
Did the research help establish the baseline for program success?

2. Planning

Did the plan clearly define objectives?
Did the objectives support the organization’s overall goals?
Did the strategy reflect research findings and support objectives?
Does the strategy show original thought?
How thorough was the plan?

3. Execution

How appropriate were the tactics to achieving objectives and executing strategy?
Does the project reflect creativity in the tactics?
How well were the tactics implemented?
Were public relations and business communication tools integrated in the execution?
How efficient was the execution of tactics in relation to resources?

Specific budget information is not required and is not part of the judging process.

4. Evaluation

How successful was the organization in achieving its objectives?
How thorough and relevant were analysis and quantification of results?
Did the results clearly reflect the original strategy and planning?

5. Supporting Materials and Project Content

Do materials reflect a professional approach and presentation?
Did the project team use creative means to present its message?
