Utah chapters of PRSA honor Golden Spike winners of 2012

The Greater Salt Lake and Utah Valley Chapters of the Public Relations Society of America honored more than 25 Golden Spike Award recipients at the 2012 Golden Spike Awards gala last November.

Special recognition went to the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce and President and CEO Lane Beattie as Communicator of the Year. Beattie and the chamber of commerce’s communication excellence in promoting economic development, education, transportation, clean air and immigration is what earned them the award.

Amy Fiscus, a Weber State University student, earned the title of PR Student of the Year by competing with other university students throughout the state to receive the award.

The night ended with Michael Smart receiving the Award of Merit. Smart was honored as the 2012 Professional of the Year. The recipient of the award is nominated by chapter members and then members vote on the top nominees. Smart previously worked at Brigham Young University for 14 years before starting his own public relations firm, Michael Smart PR.

The Golden Spike Awards were sponsored by C.R. England, Business Wire, Zions Bank, Durham Jones & Pinegar and Fat Fish Designs.

The Golden Spike Awards were divided into two categories: campaigns and tactics.

The Golden Spike Award winners for campaigns included:

  • Intrepid – City Creek Grand Opening (Special Events, For-Profit)
  • American Fork Hospital – American Fork Canyon Half Marathon & 5K (Special Events, Non-Profit)
  • Intrepid – Mountain Medical Advertising – Affordability Campaign (Marketing Products or Services, For-Profit)
  • Intrepid – Marketing Salt Lake’s First Diverging Diamond Interchange (Marketing Products or Services, Non-Profit)
  • McKay-Dee Hospital – Ogden Officer Shooting (Crisis Management, Non-Profit)
  • Connect Marketing – Symantec’s Influencing the Influencer Program (Social Media, For-Profit)
  • Intrepid – UDOT I-15 Core Social Media (Social Media, Non-Profit)
